Antenuptial Agreements – Protecting Your Future Together

The air is filled with excitement as spring ushers in a season of weddings. Marriage is a celebration of love, commitment and shared dreams. But beyond the romance, there is also a practical side worth considering: how your assets will be protected throughout your marriage and beyond. That is where an antenuptial agreement comes in.
An antenuptial agreement is a legal contract signed before marriage, with the assistance of a notary, that sets out how assets will be managed and divided, both during the marriage and should it come to an end. In South Africa, if you marry without one, the default position is “in community of property” – meaning everything you own (and owe) is automatically shared with your spouse.
Why does this matter? Because life is unpredictable. An antenuptial agreement provides couples with flexibility, safeguards family assets, and helps prevent disputes down the line. It is about creating certainty and protecting what matters dearly.
And here is the thing: while flowers wilt and the cake is gone in a day, your antenuptial agreement lasts a lifetime. It may not sparkle like a ring, but it is one of the most enduring investments you can make in your marriage.
Our firm is here to guide you in selecting the right marital regime with clear, practical advice – so you can start your future together with peace of mind.
